How YouTube to MP3 Conversion Works
A simple interface, with the processing explained. Your browser runs the controls; our conversion server prepares the audio.
How the conversion works, step by step
1. Check the source. Sonify validates the video link and asks the source for available audio. Unsupported, inaccessible or restricted videos may fail.
2. Prepare the audio. The conversion server temporarily retrieves the source audio. This part does not happen entirely in your browser.
3. Encode an MP3. The server encodes the audio at your selected bitrate. MP3 is a lossy format, and a higher output bitrate cannot recreate detail missing from the source.
4. Deliver and clear. The result is available through your browser session. It expires 15 minutes after completion, or you can request deletion sooner.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to convert YouTube to MP3?+
It depends on the content, your permissions, the platform conditions and applicable law. Public availability, personal use and a free tool do not automatically grant permission. Use content you are entitled to download and convert. See YouTube’s UK terms and the UK copyright exceptions guidance.
What quality can I get?+
Choose an MP3 output bitrate of 128, 256 or 320 kbps. The result depends on the source audio. Encoding a low-quality source at 320 kbps creates a larger file; it cannot restore lost detail.
How long does conversion take?+
Duration, source access and queue load all matter. Sonify shows real processing stages and only offers the file when verification has finished.
Can I convert videos longer than an hour?+
No. This version supports videos up to 30 minutes, subject to input and output file-size limits.
Does it work on Android?+
The browser interface and MP3 output are designed for current browsers. Download location and available player apps depend on your Android device. Read the Android guide
Do you keep a copy of my audio?+
Our server keeps temporary source and output files for processing. Ready files expire after 15 minutes. Storage faults may delay physical cleanup; access is disabled and cleanup is retried. Copies you save to your device are under your control.
Why is Sonify free?+
This version has no account or payment requirement. Fair-use and capacity limits keep resource use bounded. Features and limits may change.
What if a video is blocked or restricted?+
Sonify may be unable to process it. We do not provide account imports or controls to bypass age, region, subscription or other access restrictions. Use an available source you have permission to use.
